A Decade of Austin Music, Fully Realized in Hibiscus
Multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter S. L. Houser has been a staple of the Austin music scene for over a decade. A graduate of the Berklee College of Music, Houser boasts an impressive resume, taking front-and-center roles as the leader of the indie-pop quartet Löwin since 2014, while also excelling in behind-the-scenes collaborations. Her work has spanned a diverse range of artists, including The Sword, Spoon, Golden Dawn Arkestra, A Giant Dog, Walker Lukens, Otis Wilkins, Coco Zandi (Alexander Beggins of Wild Child), and Fadi El Assad of the Riverboat Gamblers.
Additionally, Houser was one of just eight producers selected for Jim Eno’s Project Traction program, an initiative designed to bridge the gap between women and nonbinary artists and the traditionally male-dominated world of engineering and music production.
With her latest release, Hibiscus, Houser steps confidently into the spotlight, presenting a deeply personal and meticulously crafted body of work. The album offers a glimpse into the life of a self-described recovering workaholic—someone who has often prioritized creative collaborations while leaving little time for self-reflection.
